Olde English Lacrosse Joins the Mesa Family – A note to parents
Dear Olde English Parents,
I want to let you know of some exciting news about Olde English and a new relationship that will help us achieve our long-term goal of preparing our boys to thrive as high school players and beyond.
After several years of informal collaboration, scrimmaging and sharing ideas between coaches, we are officially joining forces with Mesa Lacrosse. Beginning this fall, our program will become Mesa’s cornerstone program in the western suburbs and play under the banner of Mesa Red.
For our program, this is the right move at the ideal time. Since the very first OE parents meeting, we have always promised our families to commit 100% of our time and energy to preparing our youth players for the next level, and when the time was right, to find the right partner to help us continue the developmental path. As our oldest teams are now in middle school, the opportunity to become part of such a respected program offers several meaningful advantages.
- Being part of an organization with an established high school program – Mesa’s high school teams represent some of the most competitive teams in Philadelphia and even nationally. With so many dynamic changes ongoing in travel lacrosse, especially at the high school levels, it’s an incredible asset for our teams and players to enter that stage of lacrosse with the right leadership.
- Opportunities to play at the highest level – Mesa is one of only two programs in Philadelphia who play in the National Lacrosse Federation (NLF). The NLF is the highest organized lacrosse league in the country and home of some of the most competitive programs such as Team 91, Long Island Express, Maryland Crabs, Laxachussetts, among others. As part of Mesa, our players will have the opportunity to compete against the best teams at the highest levels of the game.
- Opportunities to grow the game – We have always been loyal to our local township programs and committed to growing the sport in our area. In addition to our travel teams, we will be charged with championing the Mesa Juniors program for players in Kindergarten through 2nd grade in our area, and furthering our collective mission to create the next generation of passionate lacrosse players.
- Opportunities to learn from the best – Coaches John Nostrant, Mark Petrone and Travis Loving are legends of Philadelphia lacrosse. They have spent the better part of the last two decades building the Haverford school into a national power and Mesa Lacrosse into one of the premier travel programs in the country. To have them in our camp is a huge win for everyone in our program.
I can’t communicate how excited I am about this new opportunity to change our sport together with Coaches Nostrant, Petrone and Loving. This partnership is the product of many years of friendship and hours of discussions. As a combined organization, we are now part of the largest youth player development program in Southeastern Pennsylvania with 2018-19 travel programs based out of Haverford (Mesa) and Phoenixville (Mesa Red).
